Colac Botanic Gardens & Lake Colac in South West Victoria Australia
Lake Colac is the largest natural fresh water lake in Victoria and is a popular picnic spot for tourists and locals. Meredith Park, a popular fishing spot on the northern shoreline has very basic camping facilities suitable only for the rugged fishermen.
Following several years of drought the redfin numbers have diminished, although recent rains have increased the water volume of the lake.
Amenities by the lake in Colac include parking, barbeques, picnic tables, a playground, and public toilets, all located at the eastern end of the foreshore below the Botanic Gardens.
The Southern shoreline is bordered by the Colac Botanic Gardens which were redesigned by Robert Guilfoyle in the early twentieth century and feature many rare and unusual tree species.
